On Sunday afternoon my wife and I attended the play "Robyn Hood" ( Robin was spelled Robyn in this production ). We were very excited about going because we were specifically invited by the young man who had the lead role as "Robyn". He also portrayed "The Fonz" at many of the car shows we attended. The play was written and directed by a local playwright whom we know, and the orchestra was being directed by one of my former third grade students. So we had many reasons to look forward to an enjoyable production.
Imagine our surprise when we found out the play was about a stupid fat sheriff and his stupid deputy. The people of Nottingham even called the sheriff "Toad" to his face. Now I ask you, what kind of play is that to be performed at a public theater. A play like that should be banned from all theaters. And on top of that, in the very last scene Robyn Hood appears wearing a wedding dress as he is impersonating a new bride. Now what kind of message is that sending. Can you imagine any of our wonderful Mayberry folks doing such a thing? Now I read and even taught many of the childish classics, but I do not recall every reading any like that. As a protest, my wife and I are boycotting the use of Robin Hood flour in our house from now on.
