I just received my first Learn a Month magazine for 2014. Price has gone up to 40 cents, but it is well worth it. This month's topic was Phobias. And I cannot believe how many of our good friends in Mayberry have phobias. Here are some of the afflictions found in Mayberry.
haphephobia or aphenphosmphobiar phobias - cause them to avoid letting anyone touch their skin . ( most of the girls I dated suffered with this.} Keriophobia — the fear of candles. ( Opie developed this after he became the Keeper of the Flame) Philematophobia, or the fear of kissing. ( Gomer’s mommy and daddy both had this phobia as they just shook hands on their deal ) Ablutophobia - Fear of washing or bathing. (the entire Darling clan suffered with this affliction ) Alektorophobia - Fear of chickens ( no doubt about it, Maude’s hubby had this phobia ) Anglophobia - Fear of England, English culture, ect. ( Ernest T. Bass had this his entire life ) Aurophobia - Fear of gold. (Barney’s phobia after riding in the gold truck ) Epistaxiophobia - Fear of nosebleeds. ( Mr. Foley and Earl Gilley ) Francophobia/Galiophobia/ Gallophobia- Fear of France, French culture. ( Hoggette Windslow ) Metathesiophobia - Fear of changes.
