Quite some time ago I posted some similarities between TAGS and the old
radio program "The Great Gildersleeves", and there were many.

For those of you not familar with the old radio program "The Great
Gildersleeves", it takes place in a small town called Summerville where the
Great Gildersleeves is the water commissioner. He is a bachelor who is
raising his niece and nephew with the help of his housekeeper Birdie. The
program eventually left the radio and appeared on TV for several years.

I just finished watching one of the early TV episodes of "The Great
Gildersleeves", and I was amazed at the Mayberry connections in this one
episode.

You can find several of The Great Gildersleeves TV episodes on Youtube.

1. In TGG Floyd the barber was played by TAGS's Hal Smith, aka Otis
Campbell.
2. In TGG, Mr. Peevey the druggist was played by Forrest Lewis, TAGS's own
Mr. Mundt.
3. In TGG, when Gildersleeves went for a haircut, Floyd said he had "one
chair, no waiting".
4. In TGG, Mr. Bullard's niece came to visit and Leroy tried to impress her
by doing cartwheels and standing on his head.
5. In TAGS Opie fell in an oil pit while Cynthia was watching and in TGG
Leroy fell in a cement pit while Brenda was watching.
