Dear Mayberry Friends,

I agree with Ken, there are many similarities between the Great Gildersleeve
Show and Mayberry.  I've only listened to the radio shows, though.

Lurene Tuttle, our little old lady shop lifter, played
Marjorie, Gildersleeve's niece in several episodes.

Like Ken pointed out, Floyd was the town Barber, and folks gathered there to
talk, and sometimes to make crucial decisions like, where should the Jolly Boys
meet for their rehearsal?

Summerfield reminds me a lot of Mayberry with its small town feeling, folks
pulling together during crises, WWII air warden duty, raising money for a new
fire truck, looking for their pal Mr. Peavey when he went missing. Mr. Peavey
was the town druggist.  People came into his drug store for bicarbonate after
Thanksgiving dinner, or to sip a soda after a Friday night movie.

Wonderful shows, and I wish I had lived in one of their towns.

Silvia, aka Josephine Pike
