There were several days mentioned in Mayberry. Malcolm Tucker arrived in
Mayberry on a Sunday. Gomer stayed with Andy on a Saturday. The
conversation went like this: Andy: "What day is today"? Opie: "Saturday".
Andy: "What happens on a Saturday"? Opie: "The grass gets cut". But
Gomer winds up cutting the grass on Opie's behalf.
But I guess the one day that was never shown on TAGS was a Monday. I
observed all the shows, and I saw Andy and Barney at work many days, and on
every one of these days when they would walk past Floyd's Barber Shop, it was
always open. I do not recall ever seeing Andy or Barney trying to go into
Floyds and the door being locked and a sign on the door saying closed.
American men are well aware that 99.99% of all "real" barber shops are closed
on Mondays. I was shaving just now, looking at myself in the mirror, and
thinking "I really should go get a haircut tomorrow". But then it came to
me, today's Sunday, and the barber shop will be closed tomorrow. But Floyds
was never closed during the week, so I guess all the shows (excepting the ones
where everyone went to Sunday School) took place on a Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. No Mondays on TAGS. You know how everyone
says they hate Mondays? I guess they should have lived in Mayberry.
