Jim, now you're just being silly. Nobody plays games with meatballs. "Stick ball," however, is almost correct. The correct answer is STOOPBALL, which is a variation of baseball, except instead of hitting a ball with a bat, the person who is "up" throws a rubber ball at a stoop (or flight of stairs) so that it bounces back into the field of play, and then the runner attempts to reach first base. No Ken, I'm not talking about going to the duck pond at night.
The correct answer that nobody got was SHOOTING / HUNTING deer with a musket, which is mentioned in The Battle of Mayberry episode. This is what I meant when I said 200 years ago the sport required a ball (a musket ball, of course). Few people who participate in this sport nowadays use that sort of ammo. One last possibility is a GAME OF CATCH, which George "Tex" Foley says he plays with his dad. They probably used a baseball, but maybe not; they may have used a Frisbee or something else.
