The T. in Ernest T. Bass was taken from the character Frank T. Whip, on an old show called Mr. Peepers. However, I am only vaguely familiar with that show, and I don't know if Frank T. Whip's middle name was ever revealed. Even so, that wouldn't necessarily prove that Ernest T.'s middle name was the same as Frank T.'s.
The "Bass" came from Saul Bass, a graphic designer who created movie title sequences for classic films such as North by Northwest, Psycho, and Around the World in 80 Days. Paul T.
