One of my very best "Mayberry Buddies", Tommy Chewning, who assists me with our
annual Westminster event, received this sweet note from his wife Kim about our
weekend trek to "Mayberry Nights" presented by Howard Sprague (Jeff Branch). I
thought it was well worth sharing.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that Aunt Bea called and said she would have
your favorite pot roast and gravy and apple pie waiting for you when we get
there tomorrow. She and Miss Clara Edwards had just gotten back from Foley's
Market with one his finest and most tenderest cuts of beef and a bushel of
juicy green apples from Miss' Mendelbright's apple trees. She's makin you a pie
using some of her homemade pie crusts that she rolled out and froze in her new
freezer chest. She said Andy finally made her "call the man"!

But, she hopes Gomer will be finished painting the house by the time we get
there. He still thinks he owes Andy for saving his life!! If not, we will have
to eat at the courthouse when she takes Otis and Andy and Barney's lunch. She
said Andy and Barney have a few jars of her homemade, blue ribbon pickles left
in the file drawer behind Andy's desk.
And Maybe if it's not too hot after supper, she said we can sit outside on the
front porch and make homemade ice cream while Andy plays a few tunes on his
guitar. I told her you would not mind turning the crank on the churn while Opie
sat on top.

Everyone is excited to see us this weekend Aunt Bea said. Floyd is planning on
closing the barber shop early so he can come by for ice cream, if the new
manicurist doesn't have any late appointments. She just seems to have a steady
stream of men folks wanting their nails done!

Sara "overheard" Mayor Stoner tell Miss Edwards, who told Ellie at the Drug
Store, who told Juanita at the Diner, who told Floyd, who told Thelma Lou, who
told Barney, who told Andy, who finally told Aunt Bea that the town marching
band has been heard warming up in the church social hall over the last week.
So, Aunt Bea said to tell you to act VERY surprised if the band comes marching
around the corner when we step off the bus! I told her we would just act as
thrilled as a junebug on a daisy!

Oh, yea, don't let us forget that Aunt Bea DEFINITELY wants us to make sure
that Private Dudley A. Wash boards our same bus in Raleigh! Briscoe and the
Darling boys are having a whale of a time keeping Charlene out of the Sheriff's
Office gawkin and makin googely eyes at Andy whilst he is commencing to do his
sheriffin work.

Anyways, Aunt Bea couldn't talk too long. She had to get ready for choir
practice. (And besides, we were both kinda gettin put out listenin to Sara's
breathin on the other line whilst we were a'talkin.)

I'm excited to get there, aren't you???!!!
Hey, maybe we should put a few S.C. rocks in our pockets for Ernest T.
Hopefully, he won't use them while we are there. And maybe I can take some of
my students' homework to get Helen's advice on how to best teach multiplication.

 Love ye!
