My wife and I took the squad car to another car show about 90 miles from
here. Over 250 great old cars. I had an unexpected honor at the show.
The Emcee came up to me and said that they would like to make a Barney Fife
Choice Award to one of the cars. So I was given the job of selecting my
favorite car of all those beauties. ( And Andy thought he had a tough job
choosing Miss Mayberry.) I selected a beautiful 1955 Packard and then I
presented the trophy to the owner.

While at the show I noticed a young boy looking at the car, but he was
afraid to come up to me. His mom came up and told me he was autistic and
that he was extremely afraid of the police because his father was abusive
and they had to have the police at their home on a number of occasions. I
told the mother that I had been a teacher and that I had worked with
autistic children. So I had him come up to the car and told him about it.
He asked about my handcuffs so I showed them to him and then put them on me
and showed how easily they would come off. He actually wanted to be
handcuffed then which his mother could not believe. He got into the car
with me and I let him activate the lights and siren and then had him talk
through my amplified microphone system. He was hilarious with that. His
mom was just about in tears. And the best part is his name was Trey. So
now Opie and I both have a friend named Trey. His picture is on my website
at www.themayberryguru.com if you would like to see him.
