Andy was a big fan of Old Time Radio. Being an only child, I can imagine Andy
sitting around the house listening to the big old Zenith Radio. Don Knotts
relates in his autobiography that one of the first things that Andy said to him
was "You play Windy Wales on the radio don't you"? Andy recognized Don's voice
from radio.

Andy used many, many OTR performers on TAGS. It is almost impossible to
listen to an episode of OTR without recognizing a voice from TAGS. Just this
afternoon, while I was listening to an episode of "The Falcon" from 15 April
1951, I recognized the voice of Ken Lynch playing, what else, a policeman.
You may remember Lynch as Captain Rogers in the 2nd episode of TAGS, and also
as the head of the Gold Truck Brigade. Lynch appeared 4 times on TAGS and
every time he worked for law enforcement.

Right off the top of my head I can name 3 TAGS alumni that were the stars of
their own shows on OTR. Mr. Doakes (Norris Goff) was one of the stars of Lum
and Abner. Larry Thor, the man who weighed and measured Barney was the star
of Broadway Is My Beat. Karl Swenson (Mr. McBeevee), was the star of
Lorenzo Jones. I am sure you can think of many more that I have forgotten.
