Back in the early 60's my mother was paid 35 cents an hour to do waitress
work in a local family restaurant.

I was paid 10 cent a line for setting pins at our bowling alley. In a four
hour shift working non stop setting two alleys at a time I made $4.80.

I started work in a woodworking factory in the fall of 1964 and I made
$1.25 an hour. If I did a lot of overtime I could bring home just about
$50 a week.

I can't tell you how much it would cost to go out on a date because none of
the girls would go on a date with me.
