I have just started a mystery, "Death of a Gentle Lady" by my favorite
British author, M.C. Beaton and I came across yet another Mayberry
reference.

Miss Beaton begins each chapter with a famous quote. Well, chapter 4 began
with this quote. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice
to deceive!" And then she credited the quote to someone named Sir Walter
Scott. Now I have no idea who this Sir Walter Scott is, but I do know one
thing. He did not say that quote. We all know that it was Andy Taylor who
said that when he caught Mayberry's citizen of the day sneaking out of the
back door of the jewelry store that he had just robbed. That Scott fellow
is most likely a troublemaker from another country. Canada maybe.

I am thinking of writing to Miss Beaton and demanding that she retract that
part where she attributes the quote to that Sir Walter Scott fellow. Now I
ask you; are you guys with me? I think if we join together with a petition
we can get her to credit Andy with that statement. If you want your name
added to my petition let me know and it will be done.

I need 100 names so please don't refuse to sign it. If you don't sign it I
will consider you a turncoat. So let's all be cream puffs, and sign up.
