Well folks, things are winding down this week as the car show and parade
season is quickly coming to an end. We have a Culver's Final Car Show on
Tuesday night and then on Saturday we have the squad car in the UWEC
Homecoming Parade. One more car show on October 6 which is a benefit for
Breast Cancer Awareness. I have another presentation later in October and
then the calendar is clear. Last year we did 80 events and I said we would
have to cut back, but this summer it will be 92 events. I just have a hard
time saying no.

I received word this week that the piece that Wisconsin Public Television
filmed about we will be aired this Thursday night at 7 P.M. They have been
promoting the new season for the past week a lot and they are using parts
of what they filmed as part of the promotion so it is on many times a day.
So hopefully a lot of Wisconsin folks will get to know more about Mayberry.

This past week I gave my presentation at a large county health care center
and it was such fun. When I gave my tribute to the veterans all these
elderly folks began to sing God Bless America along with Kate Smith. When
I finished I noticed to man in the back who had tears just streaming down
his face. A nurse came up to me and said he wanted to shake my hand. He
enjoyed the program so much and just could not stop crying. He told me
that he had been a police officer and that he had once been shot in the
line of duty. So I took out one of my badges and stuck it on him and swore
him in as an official Mayberry Deputy. Well, that got the tears flowing
again.

And that is the reason I can't say no when I am asked to attend an event.
