Yesterday's post about the 3rd being the anniversary of the first episode of the show reminded me to change my wall calendar at work. The October pic is of Andy Griffith and Don Knotts, but it is actually taken from The New Andy Griffith Show, where Andy played Andy Sawyer, and Don played... Barney Fife? (Andy actually has false teeth and a little showing of gray in his hair in the photo.) I know there was a TCNW podcast that featured a clip from TNAGS, and Allan discusses Don's character never actually being called by name. The IMDB page for Episode 1 lists him as Barney Fife, along with George Lindsey as Goober and Paul Hartman as Emmett. Curious, curious.
