I agree with Thelma Lou (Janet). Clearly, the show's time period was set in the '60's, but it was written so as to have a '30's feel to it, a more relaxed, simpler time. In the "Barney's First Car" episode, which aired in 1963, he saw Hubcaps Lesh's ad for a "1954 Ford Se-dan". Andy later commented that he thought $100 would be a right fair price for it because "that car's nearly 10 years old."
