Barney accidentally shot the gun off on the front porch when he was showing the gun to Tray. Also, very foolish to give Gomer a gun and he kept sticking in Barney's face. Uncle Ollie grabbed a gun out of the gun rack and started pulling the trigger not knowing if it was loaded.
