I've never watched this Andy Griffith classic from beginning to end without
interruptions until this past weekend, when it was featured on Turner
Classic Movies. What really struck me was how similar Andy's character of
Will Stockdale was to Jim Nabors' character, Gomer Pyle in TAGS - the
simple, good-natured, country boy, a little naive about the ways of the
world but with a good heart. Great movie.

Another TAGS memory was triggered by the scene where the General gets the
call that Will and his buddy were presumed dead in a plane crash, and they
come out of the backroom, much to the General's surprise. Reminded me of
the scene in "The Loaded Goat" when Mayor Stoner heard the explosion and
thought Andy and Barney were dead - until they came out of the backroom,
much to the Mayor's surprise.
