Does anyone else out there notice some odd pronunciations and language usage in our hometown? Things like Andy saying "that's a order vs. that's AN order;" or Opie saying corder vs. quarter or spinash vs. spinach. What about Andy always saying "it's things like 'is vs. this." These grate on my nerves after watching Mayberry for 45 years now. I must've seen every episode dozens of times altho not as often for the color episodes, most of which I like very much.

Meanwhile, as for what I call Andyisms come out of my mouth quite often. Many times when I'm re-loading my scooter into the van, a stranger will approach and ask if I need help. I will respond "I think I got her if she don't jump!" If they don't have a look of comprehension I say that's an Andyism; if they still don't seem to know, then I say "You know, from Mayberry?" They usually grin and say oh yeah. Sometimes these exchanges lead to further queries as to whether there really is a Mayberry. I nod and point to my heart and head and then explain that Mayberry is somewhat regarded as Andy's actual hometown, Mt. Airy, and how a huge festival is held there every year. Then there are the occurrences when a fellow fan will comment on my bumper stickers and tell me they are avid fans or how they've been to Mt. Airy too. It's always a pleasure to meet a fellow Mayberrian. Some are not aware of the website so I give them that info gladly.
