Gail, I'm no web developer either! Also learning from this excellent list to try to make a decent site.
I support JP's comment on button text colours - very difficult to read; white might work well, though. Couldn't take time to go into the site just now, but what I liked very much on homepage, although it took a few seconds to load fully, there was something visibly appearing all the time (I know 'visibly appearing' is tautology, but I get so angered by long loading sites that offer no indication of what is happening). I liked what I saw.
