Bit late to this thread, but if it is still about fonts, there is WEFT
[Microsoft] and PFR [ Netscape ] which I think is created using WebFont
Maker, but is NOT supported in Netscape 6#.
WEFT anyway requires an embedded open type font file ( OET) set up on your
server and you need to use CSS @font-face etc to make it functional.
I have not used it myself, seems to be too problematic in implentation, but
here is a snippet from a reference:
@font-face
{ font-family: name;
font-style: normal;
font-weight: bold;
src: url(http://www.yourserver.com/fonts/name/eot);
}
The reference for the WEFT stuff is:

When CSS2 is more supported the desiderata is at :
