Alrighty then, Since so many of you seem to have more knowledge about ftp than I do, I'm going to ask some questions of my own.
My problem: I use WS_ftp (free version) which I like very much. It has always worked well for me. (always times out after about 5 mins.) Anyway, I have a client who's files I cannot access with WS_ftp. I have two personal sites and another client on different servers that I have no problem ftping. When I try to connect to this troublesome server I get an error some thing like, "cannot connect to ..." I talked with the system admin. there and he had me ping the server from a dos window. The ping returned, "Unknown host" even after I confirmed that I was using the right address. The conclusion by their admin. was that I had a problem with my ISP. When my wife got home, she suggested connecting through her university server. she dialed in, and using WS_ftp, we still could not access my client's server. On a whim, my wife tried using ftp from a dos prompt and we *were* able to access the files on the client's server, but only through the university, not through my ISP. What the Hell? Anyone have any ideas about what the problem might be?
