While that might be true, there is also no good reason to change a bunch of file names on an existing site - and site management and navigation works better if sites follow a consistent naming convention. So, as someone who started out with the problem of uploading 8.3 character files from a Windows to Dos computer way back when and built a huge site, I'm sticking with the 3-character extension. You might notice that many other extensions on the internet are 3 characters (domains: .com, .net, .org -- other extensions: .psp, .asp, .cgi -- and of course most windows file names still end with 3-characters (.exe, .bat, .doc, etc.). So for the unsophisticated masses out there who might *guess* at the URL from memory, a 3-character extension might seem more logical than 4-characters). Anyway, while agree that there is no need for this to continue, there is also no need to use a 4-character extension when a 3-character one will do. Personally, the less typing I have to do the better, so I favor the short extension -- but I have a habit of using .htm for regular pages on my site, and .html for pages I have under development - this is just my personal practice, but it also prevents my accidentally overwriting an existing page with it's not-quite-ready-for-public-viewing replacement. -Abigail ____ The WDVL Discussion List from WDVL.COM ____ To Join wdvltalk, Send An Email To: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Send Your Posts To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To change subscription settings to the wdvltalk digest version: http://wdvl.internet.com/WDVL/Forum/#sub ________________ http://www.wdvl.com _______________________ You are currently subscribed to wdvltalk as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
