I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean that it should prompt the user for a password, but use the MySQL DB for storage of the details? You say that you don't want to have popup boxes requesting passwords - how should the user be identified then if you don't ask for a password? Do you mean you just want them to enter their username and password in a form on a page (as opposed to the browser's own "Login" popup thingy)? Are you suggesting that it should pull the details from a MySQL DB on the _client_ side, then check it against the server? I don' think that would work.
