How about a Yahoo Group? Yes, yes, I know, they're a PITA to admin, but it's free and for a (presumably) low-traffic situation like this, it might be sufficient. IIRC Dave run the social list off a Yahoo Group for a bit... he'll be much more clued about them than I am.
