HC,
That all looks spot on, again.

Thanks. I've just tested it and it works fine for me. Both with
downloading and integrating within the browser (see below for how I tested
both). I am using WinNT, IE 5.5, Acrobat Reader 4.0.
mine is 98SE, IE 5, Reader 5 (clean reinstall - don't ask)
BTW, a quick look at
the pdf looked quite impressive!
Thanks.

The SBook downloads automatically because it is an .exe file which cannot
integrate with the browser, whereas the .pdf can. However this is an option
on each PC that you can toggle. Open Acrobat Reader and goto File -->
Preferences --> General. There you should see a check box called 'Web
Browser Integration'. If this is checked then a left-click on a pdf link
will automatically launch within your browser. If it's unchecked then pdf's
will prompt to save to your HD. Unfortunately as far as I know this is a
client setting and there isn't much you can do about it programmatically.
On R5 it is Edit -->Prefs -->Options --> Web Browser Options and the check
box is Display PDF in Browser; It was as you suggested and is now deselected.
However, I suggest that a possible work around is to let them download a
zipped copy of the pdf. When they left-click the link it will default to
prompting to save to the HD as the .zip file doesn't integrate with the
browser. By the looks of your site, this page is the download page after
the user has made the purchase, so they will be wanting to make sure they
save it to their HD anyway if they've just paid money for it, as opposed to
it launching in their browser. Zipping the file will also shave a little
bit off the download time. The only downside is that the user will need
WinZip to open it but this should be commonplace for most users today (but
you may like to provide a link to download it from somewhere just to be
safe).
Your other option is to explicitly state that users should use
"right-click --> Save Target As..." but that's probably not ideal.
I will get round to all of the above. Good advice.

So why isn't it working for you? Good question. Try toggling the web
integration option and see if that makes any difference. You could also try
a re-install of Acrobat Reader.
Hope this helps!
It helps a lot,
Joseph
