Well... you could, but there are a lot of people that move their cursor aimlessly 
on the screen while reading/looking and it would be annoying to have that 
window dissapear on it's own. Also IIRC, IE would give you an alert telling the 
user that a page is trying to close a window by itself - might scare off some 
newbies not realizing what the alert was actually for.

Now I see what you are driving at... using divs/layers and showing/hiding them  
might be more useful to you than "pop-ups".

When I lived in Williams Lake, they took the day after New Years off as well, and 
called it Wrestling Day.
