Hi all, We are re-thinking our whole network setup and came to agree on the following. Workstations -> w2k with office2k DHCP/POP/SMTP/Database/Domain Server -> w2k Server/Exchange Server to open world -> Linux (distribution not fixed yet) with SendMail, Apache and MySQL client
I specified MySQL Client on the linux box since we don't want out database to reside on the linux box, it will be on the 2k box. Security reasons, Apache will be our Intranet/Extranet web server. The problem is as follows. For internal mail we will not have any problems. Exchange will take care of everything. But when we send mail to other mailboxes (outside organisation), we are not sure on the way to proceed. Will exchange "push" the mails to the linux box and "fetch" new mails from outside world from the linux box to the exchange box? Or should SendMail be responsible to periodically "fetch" new mail from the exchange box and send them as well as "push" new mails from the outside world to exchange? I hope that I clear enough... Normally exchange should be able to connect to sendmail and vice-versa without any problems. I mean, they are both POP connectors and POP is a standard, but somebody told me that there would be problems. Anybody ran into a similar setup or could propose a better solution. I am open to any ideas that could be safer, less complicated and of course easier to administer. Thanks in advance.
