Cable modem seemed to be working better last night, downloaded lots at pretty good speeds. Will try CounterStrike later and see if it's any better. I was dreading calling NTL since I've heard their tech support isn't up to much. Mind you, when I first had it installed, I called them because it didn't seem to be working. I was answered immediately by a friendly, apparently knowledgeable bloke. It started working just after that, seems it took a while after registration to activate. Also, I had no end of problems until I found out that the cable modem (or their service) remembers the MAC address of the first computer connected to it, and then doesn't want to speak to another one. I registered with it connected to a Windoze box, then connected it to my Linux gateway/firewall. It point blank refused to speak to the Linux box. Once I found out about the MAC address issue, I swapped the NIC cards between the Windoze + Linux boxes (they had identical Linksys cards anyway, which was handy) and all was well. > Never mind, we're getting your e-mails, we want to talk to you.
