> Question: Is there a way to use this technique to create a sitemap page?

mais oui, but of course

however, eet eez vary, how you say, desagreable

a site map is not the physical allocation of files to folders, although if
you plan in advance for folders and files to fulfil this purpose, yes, it
can be your site map

you would not want to "save the search and transfer it into a html page"
because on an ongoing basis this is just one more repetetive task that has
to be done when adding a page to a web site, and who wants to do repetitive
stuff, eh? i know i always forget

what you want is to add content to the site and have the site map build
itself in real time, eh

i do that on my own site -- http://rudy.ca/sitemap.cfm

the descriptive text that you see for each page is also stored and is used
in TITLE attributes for those links in the navigation bar
