I didn't have a problem with either of your images, I quite liked them in fact. Your images spiked my curiosity and made me want to enter the site. However, once entering the site I was a bit confused as to what the purpose of the site is. I tried both the German - I understand only a few words, but enough to get some idea what the articles were about. My only suggestion would be to let the user know a little more explicitly what the purpose of the site is, and to provide a link to get to the English version (in case you accidentally enter the German version by mistake).
