Hi David,
Deb just informed me that I don't have to register for google, they crawl
automatically, though they did send me off to DMOZ when I followed links
from google. I've tried some local search engines now and see what
happens. I know some of them run of google, so maybe that will be enough.
I just need to wait and see and I'll follow up on all the category owners
and the backlog, maybe mine is 2nd on the list :P
tx a lot

Have you checked that the category you want has an editor? The Open
Directory has had some categories swamped for years despite having several
editors, and some categories and sub-categories do not have an editor
currently so the backlog just grows. I could not keep up with the number
of sites that were submitted in the categories of which I was an editor,
especially as many submissions were inappropriate, so I am no longer an
editor. I applaud the existing editors who have to deal with the enormous
number of duff submissions.
I am surprised if you have contacted a meta-editor and received no
reply, but, as I say, check that your categories actually have editors
and, if so, what the backlog of unreviewed sites is.
Regards,
David
