This is a perennial issue. Since "good looking" is ultimately subjective,
there is no answer to the question. Common fonts include arial, new times
roman, courier, Helvetica, and verdana (add personal favorites here). And
users can pick their own anyway.

For a detailed discussion of font see
http://www.w3c.org/TR/REC-CSS2/fonts.html
The chapter discusses the amorphous nature of fonts and suggests procedural
means for working around the seeming confusion of terminology and
definition.

So the short answer is 1) pick a few and include the appropriate serif or
sans-serif generic
or 2)go with generics and let the browser pick the appropriate default. In
any case don't rely on any font to make the page work.

Subject: [wdvltalk] website w/examples about usable fonts for webpages?

Hi guys,

I am often wondering what kind of font to use on webpages, is there anywhere
a page that gives examples of good looking fonts that are widespread
(meaning not only installed on Windows XP, or only on Mac).
