from http://php.weblogs.com/adodb_date_time_library:

PHP native date functions use integer timestamps for computations.
Because of this, dates are restricted to the years 1901-2038 on Unix and
1970-2038 on Windows due to integer overflow for dates beyond those
years. This library overcomes these limitations by replacing the native
function's signed integers (normally 32-bits) with PHP floating point
numbers (normally 64-bits).

If you download the adodb function library from the top of that page, it
lets Windows deal with dates earlier than 1970 and Unix deal with date's
earlier than 1901.

Hth,

Matt

Boy, when Marge first told me she was going to the Police Academy, I
thought it's be fun and exciting, like the movie `Spaceballs.' But
instead, it's been painful and disturbing, like the movie `Police
Academy.' -- Homer Simpson The Springfield Connection
