Hello-

I am hoping one of you fine folks will be able to help me out.

The situation: I run on a Window XP Home PC and do not have a local web
server. Up until recently this has been only a moderate inconvenience-- I
just post the test pages on my hosted server in a test area. This is not the
best solution but it was working. But now I have more sites to deal with
(good news I guess!) and also they are using JavaScript, server side
includes and CSS that need a server to adequately test the page before
publishing.

Unfortunately, the box I have with WinXp Home does not have Microsoft's IIS
(I guess to sell more Pro versions MS stripped out the PWS that came with
Win2000). I won't bore you with the details of why I have Home vs. Pro. I
know I need to upgrade to Pro but this isn't a good time to do an operating
system change. So I need to find an easy way to get a personal web server.
All I want to do is test pages -- I won't be hosting any web sites. I don't
need a lot of sophistication-- just want to check the layout of these pages
and troubleshoot the CSS position before publishing to the world.

I don't know anything about setting up a personal web server-- and frankly
have too many other things going on to want to. I have heard that Simple
ServerWWW and Abyss are two simple but functional choices. Anyone using
either of these? Any other ideas on a simple way to get a personal web
server?

Thanks

Janet
