Andrew,

Go ahead and try it. Worse comes to worse you uninstall, reboot and do a new
clean install if you screw it up. That's why you learn on your own system.
If running XP (whatever version) create a restore point before you begin and
if necessary you can go back to that point after you uninstall Apache.

It really isn't that difficult for a testing server. I wouldn't suggest you
jump right into installing Apache for the first time on a production server
but on your local machine go for it. Just make sure you have a firewall that
doesn't let it out of your intranet area (assuming you have more than one
computer networked together) or outside connection come in. Zone Alarm (free
version even) as well as several others will take care of that end.

Apache will not affect your other programs so all you really have to lose is
time.

I didn't recommend it earlier because she was looking for something to run
as a testing server with FP and Apache isn't the one to use there. I have
one machine currently running Apache (my Mac) while the rest run either IIS
5.1 (XP Pro) or IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003) because I primarily work in asp
with asp.net as my alternative. I rarely use PHP but when I do I can test it
on either the Windows or Mac since it runs on both types of web servers.
Probably a bit better integrated on Apache than IIS but not a big deal
either way.
