yes, because ssi merely inserts code on the server side,
and by the
time the
browser sees it, it's as though it were just part of the
code

the one where you do not actually use the @ symbol

the one on my contact page is pretty decent

encoding to unicode is no longer good enough
example
<a
href="mailto:pc_li&#
109;[EMAIL PROTECTED]
1;m">send email
16;o pace comput
ing</a>
i've heard that there are spambots that can read this

Safest: don't put them on the Web site - just have a
contact form.
If you do want to put the addresses up I am trying an idea
that could
work:
<nobr>myname@
<title>z</title>
domain.com</nobr>
That would show on the page as [EMAIL PROTECTED] but a bot
would either
not
see an email address, or if stripping out all html tags
before looking,
would get the z inserted giving an invalid address. (Or
you could use
something different from z, like 'fbi.com ')....
On browsers I've checked, having a <title> tag in the body
doesn't
cause a
problem or put the text into the title bar, though it might
make the
page
fail to validate. The reason I used <title> is we need a
tag that will
be
recognised by all browsers so the text inside won't be
displayed.
