I recently did a website for a caterer (just a menu and order form for now) and she called today and said that a lot of people are complaining that they can't get onto the site. I tried the site in both IE6 and Netscape 7 and a friend tried it on AOL and we had no problems. Any idea what is going on? Could they be mispelling it? The address is www.chanis.net - I tried chanis.net too and got there as well. Any advice would be much appreciated.
It may be a people/browser problem. I believe that IE can be configured so that it adds "http://www." to the front of and ".com" to the end of any typed URL that does not already have these. And, as with other IE features, people can "configure" (that is, ignorantly mess about with) the settings.
So a commercial site ending in ".net" may be asking for trouble if its target is not "net" people..
Regards, David
