Following on from Drew's helpful comments: To avoid the difficulty of bloated and therefore inefficient and problem-causing tables it seems obvious to use links and a folder of files. Exisiting blog scripts are not set up for this, of course (or are there ones that are?). And there is a puzzle in how the urls should be written. So two questions.
Is there a relatively simple way to adapt a script to take the text from files? Secondly, since the Db is presumably at the same level as the root directory on a regular host server what would be the way to get the script to search there?
