Thanks Steve. Same issue as with Sheila: poor articulation of the issue on
my part. The style sheet is in a php page not added as an embedded php
script. Works in the style sheet therefore without echo and without quotes.
The rule seems to be use quotes within a tag and none between tags. Exactly
why that is so escapes me.
