As a former journalist (on the stodgy papers) I can only sympathise with you. Unfortunately I think much mgmt consultancy has little else to say!!
David where are you? I think only you can help here...
Unfortunately, many management consultants seem to earn a good living from this kind of stuff, so I have to agree with the comment in the first paragraph. If this is all that a management consulting firm has to say, then it seems to be to be in a pretty bad way. The emphasis on the site is on the techniques used in consulting rather than on the individual expertise of the consultants. These techniques support consulting, but they are not what consulting actually is.
Much of the guff has appeared already on other websites. The BPO stuff has been over-played by a number of major consulting firms for years, using much the same phrasing.
The case studies seem to be about analysis rather than action. Again, many consultants have made a good living for years out of diagnosis rather than treatment. I prefer to see a list of real results that the client actually obtained from using the techniques and models.
On the site design, the three column approach may work in print, although I find it annoying having to go back to sidebars after I've read an article through. It looks hideous on the Web. The left sidebar is pure print and should not have been there at all. The right sidebar, with its references to case studies, could probably have been embedded in the main text. Isn't that what hypertext is for?
The text on the pages is not the words that people would use when searching. I doubt if anyone will search on 'elasticity models' when they want someone to help them control costs and increase margins.
In addition to all this, there is nothing unique. There is nothing that says to me that I should engage these people rather than anyone else making the same pitch.
What is really needed here is a good marketing consultant. At least these people don't claim to be marketing consultants, although that would have given me a good laugh.
Regards, David
