Steven, I'm not really very far advanced from where you are, and I know how difficult it looks until you pick up more knowledge. What Jon says is absolutely correct, of course.
But in the many discussions on browsers on this list it is still the case that IE5 and IE6 dominate the viewer experience. Which ones are important after that depend on what type of surfer you are seeking. I must say I have always found IE easiest to use; I have Firefox because it has just been recommended as an aid in site design and building. Opera has long been recommended but I have never mastered it. YOur site looks fine in all three of those browsers - when I refreshed in firefox it came up the same as in the others, so it is working. I do just think it needs a bit of soft colour at the top, rather than being all grey. If I have it correct web safe colours were about the early colour hardware (cards and integrated). These days I think even the cheapest system is capable of handling the whole range. Though I stand to be corrected ! (And I think we can leave Nescape 4 out of it, everyone ;-)) HTH Joseph Harris > > What are we supposed to do, own multiple > > browsers, and view every site we create or > > operate in all the browsers? > > Afraid so :-) > > There's a service at www.browsercam.com that can generate screenshots of how > things look in various browsers, but for best results you really should > check out your pages in the actual browsers themselves. > > > how many browsers, and which ones, should > > a web developer view his sites in? > > Personally, I use: > > - IE 6 > - Mozilla/Firefox (Gecko engine) > - Opera > - Lynx (for search engine testing) > > If you have access to a Mac it's also a very good idea to test on those as > there are some substantial differences, e.g. in how large your text will be > displayed. > > I suppose you could use Netscape 4 as well, but I just can't bring myself to > care about it any more :-) > > Cheers > Jon > > > > ____ .
