Bloody hell! I thought I told you to start off simple! This is a major piece of CSS work Joseph, but it can be done. Just expect to be pulling your hair out an awful lot.
Cheryl's right though - http://positioniseverything.net have done some great work getting around bugs and building robust design templates so have a look over there. Also try http://glish.com/css/ and http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/.
