"sponsored overlib/dhtml ads" would be a better description

they are pretty common

i see them in two of the discussion forums where i hang out regularly --

   http://tek-tips.com
   http://forums.devshed.com

as with so many other forms of advertising, after a short time you totally
don't even notice them

these are, to say the least, somewhat benign

a lot more tolerable than those friggin interstitials
