Well, now I'm feeling a bit contrary myself:

-----
"Holidays" means "Holy Days" which relates to either
holy Christian days or holy Saturnalia pagan rites.
----
Or to the Jewish holidays, as in the "High Holy Days". You did mean to
include those, right?

----
Actually "Happy Holidays" is NOT politically correct,
nor is "Seasons Greetings".
----
Languages change and evolve. Both 'holiday' and 'season' have become more
generic over time. A 'holiday' is a time for celebration of some kind,
religious or secular, and can be marked by as little as a day off from work
or grilled hot dogs. Or it can be marked by religious services, fire works,
or parades. A 'season' is defined by changing weather patterns as caused by
the revolution of the earth around the sun. That may not be entirely
accurate, but it's close enough.

----
The phrase "politically correct" itself is NOT
politically correct.
----
We agree on one thing. I can't stand the concept. I have yet to see where
it means anything more than whitewashing nasty attitudes with 'proper'
words. Well, my feeling on it are actually much more complicated than that,
but now is not the time to go into it.

----
I consider myself an ethical anarchist, I do not
engage in any political activity of any sort
----
I don't understand how anyone who considers him/herself to be ethical can
choose to not take part in anything that has such impact on other people.
Going a bit too far to make a point I think.

I wish the best of the season to everyone according to their beliefs. I
hope all our Jewish members had a very Happy Chanukah. Merry Christmas to
all our Christian members. Happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate it. A Merry
Yule to all our Pagan members. And a Happy New Year to all!

Diane

PS - I've been away from this list for a long time, maybe a year or more.
I'm not sure how many people here remember me, if anyone. I'm back now.

Subject: RE:[wdvltalk] OT Happy Holydays

Being analytical and contrarian, I had to toss my two
and a half cents into the discussion.

Actually "Happy Holidays" is NOT politically correct,
nor is "Seasons Greetings".

"Holidays" means "Holy Days" which relates to either
holy Christian days or holy Saturnalia pagan rites.

"Seasons" refers primarily to the pagan rites, the
winter solstice celebrations, which though pagan are
religious (pagan meaning non-Christian and
non-Judaism).

The phrase "politically correct" itself is NOT
politically correct.

I consider myself an ethical anarchist, I do not
engage in any political activity of any sort, so I
could potentially be "offended" by being forced into
anything political, including "politically correct"
anything.

Thus, "politically correct", since it is defined by a
very specific political agenda (generally composed of
liberal, leftist, Democrat, progressive, secular,
atheist), really means "partisan compliant."

And I'm not a partisan of any party or agenda.

Thus, the "politically correct" is nearly always
"psychologically/spiritually incorrect" for my
sensibilities.

Anyway, have an Emotionally Appropriate Last Two Weeks
of the Last Month of 2004 and First Week of the First
Month of 2005.

If Joyful suits your personal needs, then may it be
Joyful.

If Pensive, Solemn, Melancholy, Ambivalent, or
Poignant is more suited to your personal needs, then
may it be one of those moods.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to have a Very
Merry and a Cool Yule. I don't celebrate New Year's.

WDVL Talk is a virtual advisory staff for me and has
helped me out of many jams, often a 4 in the morning
somebody (like Rudy) has been there to take my hand
and lead me out of the quicksand.

Thanks WDVL.
