I picked up a 160gig SATA drive for $59 a couple days ago at Micro Center.
Though not the best choice as a boot drive since it only has 2mg cache the
80gig with 8mg cache which is a good choice for a boot drive was the same
price.

Peter, you really should reconsider. The price of storage now is so cheap
that you can pick up a 60-80 GB, 7200 RPM, ATA100, buffered (4-8 MB) hard
drive for chump change ($40-$50US). You get current technology, reliability,
and speed (consider, you do NOT want the drive hosting your OS to be the
slowest element of your system), plenty of room for your swap file, and for
the inevitable growth of the OS folder as apps add their own embellishments
thereto, and more flexibility in how you do your upgrade/transfer.
