eh Peter,
I see Chery's message on this copy of your post? I see the subject too.
I don't understand what you mean about the message.

You really are going to want to optimize that image. I added up the weight
of all six slices and it came to 75.75 KB. That's a pretty good-sized chunk
without considering the background. WebTools Pro couldn't give me the size
of your background tile, since there's no img tag for it, but if it is
fairly large as well, you might want to consider using a lighter weight
image there, too.

Concentrate on that logo image first, though. Ironically, slicing the image
accomplished only increasing your page weight by the amount of the code
required for the slice container table. One thing you can try is to create
two slices which contain only the main title and the subtitle, with the rest
containing only background "plaque" slices. These last, textured as they
are, you can optimize more heavily than the slices containing text without
noticeable degradation by comparison with the text slices.

A quick check around a few WebDev references found a general consensus of
maximum page weight for reasonable load times (dial-up) which ranged between
45 and 60 KB, with most suggesting no more than 50 KB, for the WHOLE page.
Your logo image alone is half again that size. Consider this, yahoo.com is
37 KB, Lycos.com is 30 KB, and Google is 12 KB! See a pattern here? ;-)

Cheers,
Scott
