This is a known issue with IE. Google on "IE whitespace bug" or "IE whitespace hack" to find numerous references, including CSS workarounds (i.e. hacks) to resolve the issue. With respect to the other spacing issue, it may be something to do with the difference between the way IE implements the box model and the way other browsers do so. In IE 6 you can switch off quirks mode by referencing an appropriate doctype and make IE treat the box model in a standard fashion. However, you would still be stuck in earlier versions unless you implement some of the box model hacks as well.

Not all hacks are bad, BTW. It depends upon their nature and how they are implemented. An example is hacks against "dead" browsers (those which will never be further developed), which are acceptable, as opposed to hacks against "live" browsers, which are not. Do some Googling on CSS hacks and you'll find a range of opinions on their use, but even those who dislike them admit that there are situations in which their use is not only acceptable, but unavoidable.

Cheers,
Scott

I had the same problem with my dropdown menu on my pages. The spacing in IE messed up. So I deleted the dropdown parts. I think it might be fixable if you use separate .css styles for IE and other browsers, or, you could just set it up for IE and see how the other browsers fare.
This is a common problem, many of us have to live with.

I would think that if I specified a particular line spacing in my .css it should work in all browsers, but since I deleted the dropdown parts, I didn't need to have multiple .css documents.

Perhaps some other list members can help with the line spacing part, and help you more than the above.

O.k. I managed to get it working in IE *but *the problem now is that the spacing in FF and NN is messed up a little. The About GoldTech and the Network/Managed Services are too close together. Any idea on how to fix this without messing up the spacing in IE? http://www.starqualitydesigns.com/goldtech/indextt1.html
