I sent a reply earlier but it came back under excuse of a full mailbox. I repeat it below.
Meanwhile I have changed the sharing across the network on C:\ to permit. Ostensibly this is applying the attributes to all the sub folders. But each time I make the change on 'read only' it is back to its old position. I'm working down the heirarchy to where I want folders to be writeable. (Oh it's so slowwww - oh no, the process froze) Anyway, they just go straight back to 'read only'. the files in the folders are, however, showing as writeable. But it makes no sense - does it? Now I have installed cygwin (for ftp action); and when I try to open it all I get is a black window flashing briefly on screen and disappearing into the void. Is cygwin for a PC? ===sent earlier but returned unposted==== Ah, me! I swear it's a plot. This would be marvellous Todd, and thanks for searching it out. However, 'Use simple file sharing' is not on the list - nor anything equivalent. I have seen the security tab and I know it should be possible to get it to show again. This is Xp Home. ;-o Joseph Joseph Harris www.smilepoetryweekly.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linden, Todd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 1:49 PM Subject: RE: [wdvltalk] ftp access to localhost Here's what I found. "...choose Folder Options from the Tools menu. On the View tab, scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings and clear (click) the check box next to "Use Simple File Sharing." Click OK to apply the change, and you should now have a Security tab..." http://windows.about.com/od/tipsarchive/l/bltip542.htm That will give you the security tab. It would seem that Windows wants to dumb down security on folders. It may be a security thing (yeah, right) to them. Hope that helps. - Todd ____ The WDVL Discussion List from WDVL.COM ____ To Join wdvltalk, Send An Email To: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or use the web interface http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ Send Your Posts To: [email protected] To change subscription settings, add a password or view the web interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=wdvltalk ________________ http://www.wdvl.com _______________________ You are currently subscribed to wdvltalk as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
