All, I appreciate that this is more for those of us in the EU, however there is to be a second vote about EU Patent Directives on the 6th of July. If the Council form passes it will contribute SIGNIFICANTLY towards the death of open source software as it effectively means that people can sue you for using their logic and way of thinking on your website. No more tabbed navigation, online processing of credit-cards or providing support via your internet site.
The best graphical representation I have sen of this can be found at: http://webshop.ffii.org/ It is an example of some of the technologies that have ALREADY been patented but currently CANNOT be enforced in a court of law. There is a high risk that this will change in the future. You could be sued just because you have a site that uses a shopping cart! Please help the Foundation for Free Information Infrastructure (http://www.ffii.org/) amongst other organisations[1] to prevent this affecting our work and our development.
