A mail merge is when you have one letter that you need to go out to a
bunch of people. You type up the letter putting field names where you
want the peoples names to go, set up a database of names and *merge* the
two. The result is that you get x amount of letters, all identical
except for names, etc. You can set up address fields, etc. not just name
fields.

For example:

Dear <<firstname>>,

Happy birthday for <<birthday>> <<birthmonth>>.

All the best,
Xilin

and your database looked like this:
Mary, 5, December
John, 8, February
Peter, 13, March

you would end up with 3 letters like this:

Dear Mary,

Happy birthday for 5 December.

All the best,
Xilin

and

Dear John,

Happy birthday for 8 February.

All the best,
Xilin

Does that make sense? Look under the Help menu for mail merge and it
should tell you how to do it.

HTH,
Riva
